Stainless Steel Dampers
Among the large range of products that EMW can custom manufacture are stainless steel dampers. Aside from stainless steel, we can manufacture industrial dampers in mild carbon steel, galvanized and aluminum for a range of industries, including the petrochemical, construction and power generation industries.
Why Stainless Steel Dampers?
For durability, corrosion resistance, tensile and shear strength, stainless steel dampers are a good choice. Stainless steel retains its strength at high temperatures, which can be a factor for your dampers in extreme environments. An additional plus of using stainless steel for your damper needs is its long lasting attractive appearance.
Stainless steel also has intrinsically hygienic advantages, making it a smart choice for damper components of ventilation systems in clean room environments, laboratories, and pharmaceutical or food processing situations. Stainless steel dampers do not require painting, anodizing or other surface treatments. Stainless steel dampers are also a great choice for corrosive environments. And while stainless steel is initially more costly than other materials, its low maintenance needs and long life expectancy can make it cost-effective over the long run.
EMW can use the most common 304 stainless steel alloy, as well as the even tougher and more corrosion resistant 316 stainless steel alloy in the manufacture of our dampers and other products.
Aside from cost, an important factor to consider when choosing stainless steel for your damper application is its relatively high weight.
EMW is a full service metal fabricator offering a wide range of capabilities in the manufacture of stainless steel dampers and other products. These capabilities include:
- CNC precision shearing up to 12 ft. in 1/4" carbon steel, 3/8" aluminum and 3/16" stainless steel
- CNC punching up to 1/4" plate
- Water jet precision cutting with a 12'x12' working envelope and dual cutting heads
- Saw, torch, and plasma cutting
- CAD/CAM design and programming
- 12' press brakes up to 350 tons with CNC back gauging
- Rolling up to 1/4" x 8' long
- MIG and TIG welding of all alloys (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW certified welders and welding to ASME Sec. IX & AWS D1.1 code)
We have finishing options (powder coat or wet paint) available when needed. Although we are not paint experts by trade or claim to be, we do offer coating/application services through outside sources. All coating will be at the customer's request and specification. To ensure that our customers receive the proper coatings for their applications, we require the customer's approval on their specifications prior to coating. EMW does not make coating recommendations for any application. Essentially, you tell us the kind of coating or finish you need or prefer and we will make sure that coating or finish is applied properly.
Types of Dampers Manufactured from Stainless Steel
Diversification and custom fabrication are watchwords for us at EMW, so the following list is merely a summary of some standard types of dampers we can produce in stainless steel and mild steel:
- Stainless Steel Backdraft Dampers: Backdraft dampers only permit air to flow in one direction in a duct or airway. They are commonly used to prevent outside air from entering a building through an exhaust duct.
- Manually Operated Stainless Steel Dampers: Manually operated dampers are simply dampers, which are set by hand, as by the operation of a handle that sits outside the duct that the damper controls.
- Motorized Stainless Steel Dampers: In motorized dampers, the plates or flaps, which control, block or allow the draft or airflow are actuated by motors. These motors are often linked to thermostats, for instance in zone controlled air conditioning systems.
- Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Dampers: Heavy-duty dampers are similar to standard duty dampers except they are formed with special reinforcement to provide greater rigidity and strength. They may be needed for applications where especially high airflow velocities are involved.
Stainless Steel Dampers Formed to Fit Your Requirements
Our dampers are created through a metal forming process (not through a metal extrusion process), which gives us the flexibility required to manufacture a unique heavy-duty damper product that fits the requirements of each customer’s application. EMW’s metal forming process also allows for the manufacture of a damper that meets close tolerances.
Whether you have CAD drawings ready or just verbal instructions to provide, you can be confident that EMW has the experience, know-how and determination to follow-through on your project and manufacture stainless steel dampers that will fit your application.
