oilfield skidsEconomy Metal Works has a long track record of manufacturing oilfield skids of the highest quality and durability. Through our proven, flexible manufacturing approach, we’re equipped and ready to provide the custom manufactured oilfield skid you need, no matter how unusual your particular requirements may be.

What Are Oilfield Skids?

A skid is basically a steel pallet – a flat structure built to carry certain objects, particularly machinery and related equipment. Skids have a wide range of uses, particularly in manufacturing applications, and can come in all sorts of sizes, ranging from a few feet square all the way to 15 feet or more in length.

In onshore oilfields, skids are used to carry self-contained portable packages of related equipment from one well to another. Skids can be configured to carry any sort of equipment, such as wireline logging equipment, mud tanks, control rooms and more. Oilfield skids must satisfy a number of requirements, including:

  • Portability. Oilfield skids must frequently be moved from one worksite to another, so weight is a concern.
  • Substantial structural integrity. Oilfield skids must be strong enough to support the equipment they carry and still retain their structural integrity after being moved from one place to another.
  • Worker accessibility requirements. Skids may also require walkways or areas for technicians to stand while performing certain tasks.
