Motorized Damper Manufacturer
Motorized dampers are dampers with blades that are opened, closed or adjusted to an intermediate position through the application of power from a motor. Also referred to as automatic dampers, this allows for the control of air flow through a duct to be electrically powered. By alternately closing or opening a given damper, or by leaving a damper in an intermediate position, different zones could be maintained at distinct selected temperatures.
Motorized dampers are also necessary in applications where flows of combustible or otherwise dangerous gases need to opened and closed automatically based on signals from detection equipment. Or, electric dampers may be selected to be motorized for automatic ease of operation. One common application of automatic dampers is in a zoned air conditioning (HVAC) system where the damper is positioned in ducts leading to each zone and controlled electronically.
Aside from zone control, an automatic motorized damper can be used for ventilation including air inlet and exhaust applications. Whatever the application, at Economy Metal Works, we are able to fabricate motorized and electric dampers exactly to your specifications and duct size.
Spring Controlled Options
Automatic dampers are often spring controlled. The damper may be designed to be “normally open,” in which case power is applied from the motor to close the damper, which can then spring open when the power is removed. Or vice-versa—if the automatic damper is designed to be “normally closed,” the power is applied to open it, and when the power is turned off, the damper springs to a closed position.

EMW has the ability to manufacture a unique and custom damper, whether automatic by a motor or of another type, for your application. We excel at both prototyping and production runs. We manufacture motorized hvac dampers and all other products to each customer’s special requirements.
Our dampers are created through a metal forming process (not through a metal extrusion process), which gives us the flexibility required to manufacture a unique damper product that fits the requirements of each customer’s application. EMW’s metal forming process also allows for the manufacture of a damper that meets close tolerances.
Our capabilities include:
- 12' press brakes up to 350 tons with CNC back gauging
- MIG and TIG welding of all alloys (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW certified welders and welding to ASME Sec. IX & AWS D1.1 code)
- CAD/CAM design and programming
- CNC precision shearing up to 12 ft. in 1/4" carbon steel, 3/8" aluminum and 3/16" stainless steel
- Water jet precision cutting with a 12'x12' working envelope and dual cutting heads
- Saw, torch, and plasma cutting
- CNC punching up to 1/4" plate
- Rolling up to 1/4" x 8' long
We have finishing options (powder coat or wet paint) available when needed. Although we are not paint experts by trade or claim to be, we do offer coating/application services through outside sources. All coating will be at the customer's request and specification. To ensure that our customers receive the proper coatings for their applications, we require the customer's approval on their specifications prior to coating. EMW does not make coating recommendations for any application. Essentially, you tell us the kind of coating or finish you need or prefer and we will make sure that coating or finish is applied properly.
