At Economy Metal Works, we take pride in manufacturing custom enclosures for a variety of satisfied customers in the petrochemical, power generation, construction and other industries. We are a custom precision metal fabricator whose guiding lights are diversification and flexibility, so you can be sure we stand ready and eager to tackle your enclosure project and provide you with an enclosure that fits your requirements to a tee.
We custom fabricate enclosures and all of our products in 304 and 316 stainless steel, galvanized, aluminum, and carbon steel. This page describes our stainless steel and mild carbon steel enclosures.
Enclosures in Stainless Steel
For durability, corrosion resistance, tensile and shear strength, stainless steel is clearly a good choice. Its long lasting attractive appearance is another reason stainless steel is chosen for many applications, and this can be a factor with highly visible enclosures. Stainless steel retains its strength at high temperatures, which can be crucial in extreme environments.
Also a factor is stainless steel’s intrinsically hygienic advantages, making it the right choice for enclosures that might be used in clean room environments, in laboratories, and in pharmaceutical or food processing situations. Stainless steel enclosures do not require painting, anodizing or other surface treatments. Stainless steel enclosures are also an obvious choice for harsh and corrosive environments. And while stainless steel is initially more costly than other materials, its low maintenance needs and long life expectancy can make it the most cost-effective over the long run.
EMW can use the most common 304 stainless steel alloy, as well as the even tougher and more corrosion resistant 316 stainless steel alloy in the fabrication of our enclosures and other products.
Aside from cost, among the factors that might make stainless steel a less appropriate choice for your particular enclosures application is its relatively heavy weight.
Enclosures in Mild Carbon Steel
Mild steel can be a more economical choice for the fabrication of your enclosure, both because of its lower price as a material and the greater ease of fabricating in mild steel. Another advantage of mild carbon steel is its ability to withstand stress and flexing without fracturing, which may be a factor in certain applications. On the other hand, mild steel will require regular maintenance to prevent corrosion and extend its life. A variety of painting and finishing options are available according to your preference.
Stainless Steel and Mild Steel Enclosure Types
While your custom enclosure can be fabricated to fit your requirements, here are some general and standard kinds of enclosures that EMW can fabricate:
- Rack Mount Mild or Stainless Steel Enclosures and Chassis: Custom configured rack mount enclosures make installation and removal of electronic components a smooth process; for desktops, servers, LAN installations and other applications.
- Electrical / Electronic Mild or Stainless Steel Enclosures: EMW can custom fabricate a housing for your electrical or electronic equipment to just about any size or design.
- NEMA Rated Mild or Stainless Steel Enclosures: EMW can custom fabricate your enclosure to meet a wide range of NEMA requirements according to your specifications. for more info.
- Sound Attenuating / Turbine Mild or Stainless Steel Enclosures: Custom manufactured sound attenuating and turbine enclosures can be fabricated by EMW to satisfy the special needs of your environment.
EMW’s custom precision metal fabrication capabilities make us particularly well suited to manufacture enclosures that perfectly fit your needs and are suited to the environment in which they will be used. Just about any size and shape of galvanized enclosure is within our capacity to fabricate.
EMW can custom configure your enclosure, in terms of cutout patterns, doors, louvers, dampers, baffles, mounting options, benches, shelves, sub-panels, rails and just about any special requirement you may have.
In addition to stainless steel and mild carbon steel, we can fabricate enclosures, like all of our products, in galvanized and aluminum. A variety of finishing options are available where needed.
Mild and Stainless Steel Enclosures Formed to Fit Your Requirements
Our enclosures are created through a metal forming process (not through a metal extrusion process), which gives us the flexibility required to fabricate a unique enclosure product that fits the requirements of each customer’s application. EMW’s metal forming process also allows for the fabrication of a custom enclosure that meets close tolerances.
EMW is a full service metal fabricator offering a wide range of capabilities in the fabrication of custom stainless steel and carbon steel enclosures and a vast range of other products. These capabilities include:
- CAD/CAM Design and Programming
- CNC precision shearing up to 12 ft. in 1/4" carbon steel, 3/8" aluminum, 3/16 stainless steel
- CNC punching up to 1/4" plate
- 12ft. press brakes up to 350 ton with CNC back gauging
- Saw, torch, and plasma cutting
- Mig and tig welding all alloys
- Rolling up to 1/8" x 5ft. long
- Structural Fabrication (Skids, enclosures, rails, ladders, stairs, stands and more)
- Water Jet precision cutting with a 12ft.x12ft working envelope
We have finishing options (powder coat or wet paint) available when needed. Although we are not paint experts by trade or claim to be, we do offer coating/application services through outside sources. All coating will be at the customer's request and specification. In order that the customer receives the proper coating for their exact application all specifications must come from and be approved by the customer prior to coating. EMW does not make coating recommendations for any application. Essentially, you tell us the kind of coating or finish you need or prefer and we will make sure that coating or finish is applied properly.
Whether you have CAD drawings ready or just verbal instructions to provide, you can be confident that EMW has the experience, know-how and determination to follow-through on your project and fabricate a custom enclosure that will fit your application.
