What Are Custom Skids?
A skid or industrial skid is basically a steel pallet, a flat structure built to carry certain objects, particularly machinery and related equipment. Industrial skids have a wide range of uses, particularly in manufacturing and onshore oilfield applications, and can come in all sorts of sizes, ranging from a few feet square all the way to 15 or more feet in length. Above all else, industrial skids must be strong enough to safely withstand the loads they will be expected to carry and retain their structural integrity after being moved from one place to another, whether by crane or vehicle.
Skids are most commonly connected with oilfields or petrochemical plants, and we do manufacture oilfield skids and pump skids. But there are countless situations where a custom-built skid is absolutely necessary. Thanks to our flexibility in manufacturing, EMW has successfully built custom skids for a wide variety of applications, including skids to hold control equipment, heat exchangers, industrial A/C equipment, water purification systems, bottle racks and steam turbines.

- Water jet precision cutting with a 12'x12' working envelope and dual cutting heads
- CAD/CAM design and programming
- 12' press brakes up to 350 tons with CNC back gauging
- Saw, torch, and plasma cutting
- Rolling up to 1/4" x 8' long
- MIG and TIG welding of all alloys (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW certified welders and welding to ASME Sec. IX & AWS D1.1 code)
- CNC precision shearing up to 12 ft. in 1/4" carbon steel, 3/8" aluminum and 3/16" stainless steel
- CNC punching up to 1/4" plate
In addition, we work with reputable third-party providers to provide quality finishing options, including powder coat or wet paint for cosmetic purposes. We’ll get your coating requirements established during the scoping and design phase of your project and ensure that your coating is applied to your precise requirements.
