Manufacturing from Carbon Steel

Carbon steel is one of the most frequently used forms of steel. It is affordable, easily tempered for added hardness, and suitable for different applications depending on the specific grade of carbon steel. Mild carbon steel (steel containing .16-.29% carbon) is not brittle or ductile, and various forms of tempering can improve the surface hardness. In addition, it’s easily fabricated and able to withstand stress and bending without breaking, making it a good option for some heavy-duty applications.

However, carbon steel does need a level of regular maintenance not seen in materials such as stainless steel and aluminum. And unlike those materials, mild carbon steel is subject to corrosion, meaning it needs addition protection such as galvanization to extend its life.

EMW is highly experienced in fabrication of mild carbon steel. We bring a complete array of capabilities in metal fabrication, including:

• Water jet precision cutting with a 12'x12' working envelope and dual cutting heads
• CNC punching up to 1/4" plate
• 12' press brakes up to 350 tons with CNC back gauging
• CAD/CAM design and programming
• CNC precision shearing up to 12 ft. in 1/4" carbon steel, 3/8" aluminum and 3/16" stainless steel
• Saw, torch, and plasma cutting
• MIG and TIG welding of all alloys (GMAW, FCAW, GTAW certified welders and welding to ASME Sec. IX & AWS D1.1 code)
• Rolling up to 1/4" x 8' long

In addition, we offer optional carbon steel coating. While we don’t provide these services directly, we work with outside carbon steel coating providers and will make sure that any coating is applied to your precise needs.
