What Are Butterfly Dampers?
Butterfly dampers are ventilation control equipment built for round ductwork. A minimum number of blades, generally only one or two, are used. These blades rotate around a central bar to open and close the damper. When two blades are used, they rotate in opposing directions resembling butterfly wings, giving these dampers their name.
Butterfly dampers are used primarily in applications in which simple open/close flow service is needed. These aren’t suitable for more precise flow control, but near-total flow shutdown can be achieved: depending on the sealing approach used, up to 99.9% of air flow through the damper can be stopped. A variety of control arrangements are available, including manual and motorized systems.
Like our other products, we can manufacture butterfly dampers from a range of materials, including 304 & 316 stainless steel, galvanized steel, carbon steel and aluminum.
